History
A small island, a great history
Île aux Pommes was part of the Seigneurie de l'Isle-Verte from the time of New France until 1816. Several owners will follow one another over the decades, but the Déry family has owned it for almost a century (acquired in 1927).
The nature reserve
A nature reserve in a private environment
Since 2004, the Île aux Pommes nature reserve has been recognized as a protected area for a perpetual period by the Quebec Minister of the Environment. Île aux Pommes is the first private island in the St. Lawrence Estuary to enjoy such a status.
The organisation
A protection organization
The Société de protection et d'aménagement de l'Île aux Pommes (SPAIAP) is a private foundation with charitable status whose mandate is to plan, coordinate and manage all protection and development activities on Île aux Pommes.
